![]() I hope to purchase one soon and begin a similar restoration. I am a former owner of an 83 250R who is in search of a replacement for my former toy. Message: This is a great depiction of a restoration on a 250R. How does it ride? Like new I would imagine. Message: Completed restoration looks awesome. Message: Who & how much to port my 1983 250r 3 wheeler? Message: Cool set of pics, how does the finished restoration run for you? Just about to start my own 250R project. Wish I had the 250R back, hindsight is always 20-20. Three wheelers were going the way of the wooden wheel back then so I dumped it for a Quadracer. Message: Hello, I partially restored a 250R back in the late 1980s. I'm at the stage of scoping out restoration candidates. I'm thinking about restoring an old Honda ATC. ![]() ![]() Does this seem to be the master cylinder? The piston on the front brake was stuck and now moves, but I don't know what I may need to get the pressure through the line to move the piston. The front brake will not produce pressure, I took everything apart and cleaned all and put it back together. Message: Hello I recently received a 20R ATC, 1982. Was there any obsolete Honda ATC parts you had trouble finding? Overall, your trike looks fantastic. I was able to track down everything I needed to this point. Message: I would assume you had no trouble finding 250R restoration parts online. I'm pretty much half done with my machine and I'm hoping to send in some pics of the entire project when I finish it. Message: Great job on the 250R restoration project. ![]() Special thanks to Rick for the photographs. They depict his 250R restoration project, obviously a tedious task. This is a collection of pictures sent in by Rick. When you buy through links marked with $$, we may earn a commission. Curtis Sparks did a test of 240cc 85 200x, it made great power, but by the end of the magazine test, the motor blew-up is reader-supported. Tc and Dg used to bore and stroke a 86/87 200x motor to about 260cc's, but it wasn't a very relielable motor. The 86/87 200x motor had a short run, it was modified for the honda fat cat 200, I think a version of it was used in a trx200sx, that was short lived too. ![]() There is no big bores or strokers commercaiy made for a 86/87 200x, yes you can bore and stroke a 83-85 to about 230, but its essentially the same motor in a 82-current xr200r. Boring a clyinder over really doesn't make that much more power, most of the time you adding max 30cc's before you need to relseave, most big bores start with adding about 40-50cc's and depending on the kit you get, and other stuff you can add 100cc's or more. The biggest you can bore the stock cylinder would be 69.5mm, this is why you need a sleeve installed. Most cylinders you can bore up to 2-3mm over, a big bore involves a new sleave put in the cyinder, as to use a much bigger piston, stock bore on a 85-89 250r is 66mm, a 295 big bore is a 72mm piston. Man your good you got any 84 200s mods that wont cost me my arm and my leg? Pm me for a list of mods and how/what I did to my 86 atc200x. As for the pegs.86/87 trx250r roll design pegs fit into the peg plates and are far superior. Also Dg sells a 27mm carb, Cobra and Dg sell a pipe(I have a cut down cobra header and 350x supertapp on mine). This what I would do, 350x tripple trees, 350x front end(or 83/84 250r, if you want a sharper turning), 83/84 250r extended axle, 400ex hubs, you will need a 38t(or what ever size you want, made for a 83/84 250r(sidewinder and sprocket specialties), the 83/84 250r carrier looks like it will fit, its very very close, I didn't try the 83/84r carrier, I had to file down some of the chain adjust tabs on 86 200x carrier to clear the sprocket bolts. I don't think you can get much engine work for a 86/87 200x anymore, Piston, cam, port/polish, bigger valves, but the strokers and big bores aren't around anymore, unless you send your motor to Tc racing and spend big bucks. ![]()
